Lifeless life
What is the point? What is life? Why are we here? I can obtain all the money, wealth, fame, and honor in the world, but in the end I am nothing. Nobody will benefit from my existence, or even from my non-existence. My life is without purpose, reason, or goals. The only thing I have ever done of worth is serve as a scape goat for others. I take the blunt of every swing and am the bottom of the dog pile. I could rot to death in a corner, and the only change in the world would be a few a few people would need to find some other way of feeling manly, some other goat to take the blows. The world has struck its toll on me and I will never be the same.

I recognize this post is over two months old, but encouragement never expires:
ReplyDeleteYou're right - you, in yourself, are a worthless waste. But you call yourself redeemed.
What does that even mean?
When I redeem a coupon at the store, I take a piece of paper that's worthless within itself (it even says so at the bottom in the fine print - that it's not worth more than a fifth of a penny), and give it to someone else in the exchange for something of value.
When we submit our lives to God - not just believe, but actually submit / obey / follow - we are GIVING Him our life. And He redeems it for something so much greater.
Re-read Matthew 6. Why are you being abused and mistreated? Is it because you follow Christ? Then rejoice - you're actually living a life that others recognize as different - set apart - SANCTIFIED! Is it for any other reason? WHO CARES? Let them abuse and mistreat you - and show them only goodness in return. Don't give them the reward of an emotional impact, don't give them back what they gave you - but stun them as Saul was in 1st Samuel 24, when David had his chance to get Him, but instead showed mercy and goodness.
As for your purpose? Overall - it's to glorify Him. Not to have happiness in this life, as if God lives to satisfy us, but to glorify Him. Side effects include joy and peace and a number of other happy things - but only as secondary aftermath of a life wholly committed to His kingdom's cause.
And your individual purpose, Ben? I know that God - in His undeserved love and amazing strategy for your life - has given you things you excel at, things you're passionate about, and a purpose. Again, not for your satisfaction and fulfillment - but in order to equip you to serve His Church (the brothers and sisters in Christ - of all denominations) and to advance His mission on Earth.
The world excels at getting you down. It's got lots of practice. But we serve a King who is more powerful, more consistent, and more GOOD than any power or principality or demon or ruler or bully this world can spit out. And in serving Him, you are protected, renewed - and redeemed.
Get in that Word and let God remind you of how things REALLY are - not how this world says things are.
